William Henry Wiederich

William Henry Wiederich (87) passed away at Huron Regional Medical Center on January 23, 2026, in Huron, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD. 

William Henry Wiederich was born June 15, 1938 in Flandreau, SD at the home of his uncle and aunt, Edward and Anna Suhl (Lamp), to William Theodore Wiederich and Laverna Augusta Lamp. He was raised in Ward, SD, where he attended a one-room country school from the years 1944 to 1952. Upon graduation, he spent one year at a Christian boarding school in New Ulm, MN. He then went to high school in Elkton, SD, where he graduated in 1956.

He attended South Dakota State University from 1956 to 1961, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. In 1965, he received his Master of Education degree also from SDSU.

He spent 35 years working for the federal government. For the first five years, he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, where he was a 9th grade science teacher. For the last 30 years, he worked for the Social Security Administration as a field agent in Huron, SD.

During his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his children and dogs. He is survived by his brother Larry (Michele) Wiederich of Watertown, SD; two daughters, Patricia (Keith) Ewy and Wendy (Dan) Ibberson; four grandchildren, Brandi (Andrew) Bauer, Katie (Jason) Pojorlie, Erin Sudbeck, and Zachary Ibberson; and two great-grandchildren.
