IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Warren D.
Ludeman
October 29, 1937 – October 24, 2022
Warren Dale Ludeman, age 84, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Avera Flandreau Hospital with his wife by his side. Warren was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born in Yankton, SD to Walter and Joyce (Holleman) Ludeman, Warren was raised in Springfield, SD where he graduated from high school in 1955. Warren got his teaching degree at Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield. While there, he met his wife, Mary Jane De Boer. The two were married on August 26, 1960 in Corsica, SD. He and Mary lived in Springfield, where Warren taught at the college and served in the Springfield Army National Guard for three years, before making their home in Flandreau, SD in 1963. Warren accepted a teaching position at the Flandreau Indian School, where he taught automotive technology, drafting, and driver's education for over 35 years. While teaching, Warren received his master's degree from SDSU in Brookings, SD. In 1969, Warren established a small engine and snowmobile dealership where he sold and serviced Rupp snowmobiles for 9 years. Warren was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder and sang in the choir. He loved the city of Flandreau and served as mayor for 12 years beginning in April 2000. Some of the accomplishments that he was most proud of during his tenure included working with the Santee Sioux Tribe to form a combined police force, and working alongside Governor Janklow to bring the Flandreau Aquatic Center, Community Center, and bandshell for the citizens of the community to enjoy. After retirement, Warren enjoyed helping numerous farming friends by combining and bringing in the fall harvest.
Warren loved music. He and Mary attended countless concerts and musicals over the years. While he appreciated a variety of genres, he especially loved Christmas music and could be heard listening to the Christmas classics all year round. His skills as an auto mechanic led him to the sprint car track where he worked on the pit crew for Krull Racing. For decades, his weekends were spent at Huset's and Jackson MN Speedway and Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. Warren was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, motorcycling, spending time at his cabin on Lake Campbell, and traveling the country to see God's wonders. He especially enjoyed fly fishing in Spearfish Canyon and walleye fishing on Lake Oahe. Warren's favorite place on earth was the Black Hills. In his later years, he found peace in observing wildlife and spent each evening at the Flandreau City Park watching the deer as the sun set. His family and friends will miss his gentle demeanor, his gift for gab, and his witty sense of humor.
Warren is survived by his wife Mary; three children, Todd, Mobridge, SD; Lisa (Jeff) Martz, Lincoln, NE; Amy (Pete) Woehnker, Cottage Grove, MN; five grandchildren, Amanda, Kaisa, Austin, Katelyn, Carson; two great-grandchildren, Raelee and Leo; and brother Roger (Sandy) Ludeman, Eugen, Oregon. Warren was preceded by daughter-in-law Mary, his parents, and two brothers, Darrell and Kaye.
