Obituary

Viola Dahlmeier, 89, formerly of Trent, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at her home in Sioux Falls. She was born September 18, 1920 in Trent to John J. and Luella (Ellefson) Johnson. She graduated from Trent High School and attended General Beadle State College in Madison. Viola taught at country schools in Moody County. She married Curtis J. Dahlmeier on April 27, 1944 at her parent's farm in Moody County. They moved to North Carolina while her husband was in the service and then moved back to the Dahlmeier Homestead in August 1945. They moved into Trent in March 1981 and her husband preceded her in death on December 3, 1981. Viola moved to Sioux Falls in 2007 to the home of Pam Hall, her caregiver and friend, until her death. Viola was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Trent American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at the Flandreau Indian School for ten years, enjoyed gardening, painting, crafts, playing cards and her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Viola is survived by two sons, Fred (Marlene) Dahlmeier, Flandreau, Daniel (Becky) Dahlmeier, Gilbert, AZ; son-in-law, Ronald Haney, Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Christy (Mark) Roemen, Dell Rapids, Melissa (Eric) Knutson, Gilbert, AZ, Bryan Dahlmeier (fiancée, Andri Hanson), Hopkins, MN, Steven (Sarah) Dahlmeier, Sioux Falls, Darin Dahlmeier, Brookings; seven great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Joshua and Seth Roemen, Eli and Sydney Knutson, Isak Dahlmeier and Madelyn Dahlmeier; one sister, Bernice Crawford, Sioux Falls, two sisters-in-law, Doris Johnson, Sioux Falls and Hilda Johnson, Dell Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; daughter, Marie (2004); granddaughter, Erin Marie (1979); parents, three brothers, Irving, Curtis and Joel; and three sisters, Judith Leuning, Marvel Alberts, and Evelyn Sieps.


Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau with burial in Salem Methodist Cemetery, Pipestone, MN. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with the family present starting at 6:30 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
