Viola Lucille (Sorensen) Amdahl Wangberg of Flandreau, SD, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the age of 102. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Flandreau, SD. The family will be present for visitation one hour prior to the memorial service.
Viola “Vi” attended country schools and graduated from Trent High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Ervin Amdahl on June 21, 1942. Viola and Ervin lived on farms near Flandreau. Ervin passed away in 1978.
Vi married Ole Wangberg on May 3, 1980. They lived in Egan after their marriage and wintered in Tucson, AZ, from 1994 to 2002, when they became Arizona residents. Ole passed away in 2015.
Vi was a farmwife, mother, and worked numerous occupations, ending her career working for 19 years at the Locke Agency as a secretary/bookkeeper.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Moody Rustlers, and the Legion Auxiliary. She loved reading, sewing, golfing, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.
In 2021, Viola moved back to South Dakota and resided at Edgewood Healthcare in Flandreau.
Left to fondly remember Vi are her sons, Dennis (Cheryl) Amdahl and Paul (Stephanie) Amdahl; stepdaughters, Ruth Brende and Kathy Brenden; daughters-in-law, Connie Amdahl, Tina Amdahl, Barb May, Brenda May, Sharlene May, and Joan Wangberg; sister-in-law, Leni Sorensen; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Myrtle Sorensen; husbands, Ervin Amdahl and Ole Wangberg; sons, Ervin Amdahl Jr. and Neil Amdahl; siblings, Lila Garcia, Fern Park, Joyce Kemp, Polly Uilk, and Richard Sorensen; stepsons, Bob May, Ray May, Martin May, Dick May, and Kenneth Wangberg; sons-in-law, James Brende and Dan Brenden; daughter-in-law, Jan May; grandsons, Zachary Amdahl, Bryan May, and Russel May; and granddaughter, Alicia Stolley.
Imagine the reunion with the family and friends who passed before her!
