Obituary

Vern "Mike" Duncan, 87, of Egan died Friday at Golden Living Center, Madison, SD. Mike was born on March 11, 1921 in Egan, SD to Everett and Mildred (Semple) Duncan. He attended Gale Ridge School until the 8th grade when he started to farm with his Dad. Mike entered the US Army in August of 1942 and was part of the Normandy Invasion. He was honorably discharged in December of 1944. He returned to the Egan area and farmed his uncle's land. On January 27, 1953 Mike married Edel Sonne in Sioux Falls. They farmed South of Egan until 1958 when they moved to a farm Northwest of Egan. They moved into Egan in 1979. Edel was preceded in death on March 17, 1994. Mike drove school bus for Egan for several years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, Bingo, gardening and eating. Mike was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau and the Egan American Legion.

Mike is survived by his 2 daughters, Sharon Duncan, Egan, Alyce (Marlin) Mennenga, Watertown, SD; 3 grandchildren, Chad, Darcie, Ryan; 2 sisters, Pansy Bachman, Brookings and Ruth "Jane" Christopherson, Lodi, CA. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, parents and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation will begin at 2pm Sunday with family present from 2-5pm at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
