Vada Nickey, 78, passed away Monday at her home in Flandreau, SD. Vada was born on May 14, 1942 at Philadelphia, MS to William Cozette and Josephine (Anderson) Nickey. She grew up and attended school in Mississippi and she married Lee Mack Stephens and later marrying Delmond King. She moved to South Dakota in 1979 and began working at the Flandreau Indian School in 1980as a dormitory matron in the girl's dormitory working there until she retired in 2006. Vada enjoyed doing beadwork, watching wrestling, going to casinos and bingo. She loved to cook, spoil her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Vada is survived by her sons, Dion (Teresa) Stephens and Ted (Rogene) Stephens, both of Flandreau. Her grandchildren, Brittany Davis, Sioux Falls, SD; Zachary Stephens, Flandreau; Chaz Stephens, Flandreau; Maggie Stephens, Flandreau; two great-grandchildren, Finnley and Remi Davis, Sioux Falls; one brother, Nathaniel (Helen) Nickey, Flandreau, SD; three sisters, Kathleen Isaac, Heidelberg, MS; Ruby Thompson, Madison, SD; May McGeisey, Philadelphia, MS and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark; parents, William and Josephine Nickey and sisters Emmaline Lewis and Rosie Joe.

Funeral services are tentatively set for Sunday, December 13, 2020 in Bogue Homa, MS.
