Thomas C. Weiland, 64, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Brookings Hospital. He was born September 4, 1945 in Sioux Falls to Camille and Constance (Evenson) Weiland. Tom graduated from Rutland High School in 1963 and attended Barber College in Sioux Falls. He worked as a barber for Don Privett in Brookings, SD. He then worked with his dad and brother on the farm. He worked at various places, finally ending his work career at Runnings in Brookings. Tom was a natural country singer, a self-taught guitarist and performed in several local bands. He became a resident at Brookview Manor after suffering a stroke in June of 2009.
Tom is survived by three children, Christopher Adolph, Amanda (Ryan) Hemmestad and Joe Weiland, all of Brookings; three siblings, Bob (Jo) Weiland, Volga, Pat Guss, Brookings, Audrey (James) Herron, Rapid City and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Paul Guss.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman, with burial in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Colman. Visitation begins at noon on Friday at the funeral chapel.
