Obituary

Svend Iversen, 87, of Colman, SD passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at his home in Colman. Svend was born November 9, 1928 in Denmark to Jacob and Anna (Skals) Iversen. He was educated in Denmark and then came to the United States in 1947 to a ranch at Murdo, SD. Svend moved to Madison and then Colman, SD and worked for area farmers and then started working for Sioux Valley Electric. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War and served until 1953. He returned to Colman and married Mary Ann Hansen on June 13, 1954 in Colman. Svend continued to work at S.V.E. for 45 years. He was a member of Colman Lutheran Church, church council, the Colman Development Association, Colman City Council, was Colman mayor for 2 terms and had a major role in developing the Colman Golf Course and Rec Area. Svend loved deer hunting, farming and was a jack of all trades.

Svend is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, 2 children, Jim (Cindy) Iversen, Madison, and Susan (Walt) Adney, Pierre, SD, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Rita (Bruce) Blake and Karen (Bob) Harden both of Sioux Falls, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Kaj and his mother and father-in-law. Memorials to Colman Lutheran Church, Colman Fire Department or the Dells Area Health Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Colman Lutheran Church with burial in the Colman Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman with a 7:00 pm prayer service at the chapel.
