Stanley G. Solsaa, 89, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 at Golden Living Center Covington Heights, Sioux Falls, SD. Stanley was born July 11, 1923 on the family farm in Blinsmon Township, Moody County, SD to Henry and Teolina Pederson Solsaa. He received his education in Blinsmon Country School and attended Trent High School for one week. Stanley married Shirley Christiansen on January 14, 1946 at First Lutheran Church, Pipestone, MN. He enlisted in the US Army on February 2, 1946 and was stationed in Camp Lee, Virginia and Los Alamos, NM until his discharge on August 4, 1947. They returned to Flandreau in 1953 and started farming south of town on the family farm and then later moved to a farm near Trent, SD. Stanley also worked construction in many places for over forty years. They moved into Flandreau in 2009 and his wife preceded him in death on May 16, 2013. He became a resident of Golden Living Center Covington Heights in Sioux Falls, SD on May 15, 2013.

Stanley is survived by one daughter Dianne (Jerry) Rood, Pipestone, MN, four grandsons, Micheal (Angela) Schreader, Perham, MN, Jason (Erin) Schreader, Hardwick, MN, Eric (Cathy) Solsaa, Rutland, VT, Jeff Solsaa, South Stratford, VT, nine great-grandchildren, Samuel, Lauren, Greta, Ingrid, Emma, Ryan, Aiden, Grace and Cashlin, a daughter-in-law June Solsaa, South Stratford, VT, and one sister Adeline Johnson, Grantsburg, WI. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, a son Larry, son-in-law Larry Schreader, his parents, three brothers, Odean, Eldo and Harold Solsaa and one sister Violet Keierleber.


Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
