Shirley M. Solsaa, 85, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Shirley was born August 24, 1927 at Flandreau, SD to Carl and Mary (Taylor) Christiansen. She received her education at Dexter Country School and Flandreau High School. Shirley married Stanley Solsaa on January 14, 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Pipestone, MN. When her husband was in the service she worked in a suitcase factory in Virginia and also in Los Alamos, NM. They started farming south of Flandreau in 1953 on the family farm and then later moved to a farm near Trent, SD. Shirley worked at the Flandreau Bakery, Grindins Dime Store and as a nurse's aide. They moved into Flandreau in 2009.

Shirley is survived by her husband Stanley, one daughter Dianne (Jerry) Rood, Pipestone, MN, four grandsons, Micheal (Angela) Schreader, Perham, MN, Jason (Erin) Schreader, Hardwick, MN, Eric (Cathy) Solsaa, Rutland, VT, Jeff Solsaa, South Stratford, VT, nine great-grandchildren, Samuel, Lauren, Greta, Elise, Emma, Ryan, Aiden, Grace and Cashlin, a daughter-in-law June Solsaa, South Stratford, VT, one brother Kenneth Christiansen, Madison, SD and one sister Donna Keifer, Tyler, MN. Shirley was preceded in death by a son Larry, son-in-law Larry Schreader, her parents and one sister Helen Benz.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
