Shirley Johnson, 79, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. She was born November 14, 1933 at Flandreau, SD to Leonard and Nora (Earl) Thompson. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Lillian and Jack Headrick, after her mother died when she was three. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1951 and worked at the Crystal Theatre while she was in high school. Shirley was married December 24, 1951 in Pipestone, MN to Homer Johnson. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, ICAPP, Dakota Industries, was a dietary aide at Riverview Manor and then worked at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Dell Rapids until her retirement in 1995. Shirley loved her family and animals.

She is survived by her husband Homer, four children, Jerome, Howard, SD, David (Melodee), Sioux Falls, Janet (John) Sternhagen, Sioux Falls, Raymond, Egan, three grandchildren, Nicholas, Alyssa, Amy, three great-grandchildren, Chace, Levi, Brynley and a sister Barbara Hovaldt. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2013 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral chapel.
