Ruth E. Quinn, RN, 97, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Flandreau, SD. Ruth was born March 19, 1919 in Yankton, SD to Fred and Bertha (Ferdinand) Binder. She attended high school at Mt. Marty in Yankton and earned her RN degree from St. Joseph/Creighton University School of Nursing in Omaha. Ruth married Robert H. Quinn, M.D. on August 1, 1942 in Omaha. They lived in Sioux Falls from 1946 – 1954 and then moved to New Orleans. They returned to Sioux Falls in 1959 and moved to Spearfish in 1986 where Ruth served on the board of the Booth Hatchery and was active in the preservation of the Booth House. Her husband preceded her in death July 23, 2001. Ruth moved to Flandreau 2011.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Karen Tufty, Flandreau; Terry Quinn, Rapid City; Thomas Quinn (Margaret Kotera), Omaha; Lisa (Johnny) Nolen, Blackhawk, SD; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Clifford, Donald, Thomas, one sister Blanche (Sister Flavia) and son-in-law Chuck Tufty.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, with burial Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. (MST) at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Visitation is 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 4:00 p.m. rosary.
Following the burial service at Black Hills National Cemetery, the family will be holding a reception at Ramada Inn Summerset located at Exit 48, I-90 and Stage Stop Rd.
