Ruth E. Olson, 93, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Flandreau, SD. She was born November 21, 1923 at Hatton, ND, to Olaf and Elise (Lismoen) Kordahl. Ruth attended school in Mayville, ND. She moved to South Dakota and did housework for Conrad and Esther Erickson. Then she returned to North Dakota before marrying Orville Olson December 23, 1941 at Crookston, MN. They moved to Moody County and Ruth worked for Erickson's again before they started farming in Blinsmon Township. They retired from farming in 1961 when they purchased the Egan Bar. They sold the bar in 1974 when they moved to Brookings, SD. Ruth worked at 3M until retiring and then they moved to Tucson, AZ. They returned to Egan in 2001. Her husband preceded her in death May 7, 2007. Ruth was a resident at assisted living in Flandreau and Tea before entering Riverview Manor in 2012. Ruth was a member of the Egan United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, and she enjoyed baking, making lefse, and working in her kitchen.

Ruth is survived by five sons, Jerome (Diane), Egan, SD; Danny (CarolAnn), Mesa, AZ; Tim (Marlene), Sioux Falls, SD; David, Madison, SD; Dale (Pam), Whitewood, SD; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Eldrid Everly, Mt. View, CA. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Benny and Edwin and four sisters, Laura, Eva, Rachel and Doris.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Flandreau United Methodist Church with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
