Ruth McFarland, 58, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. She was born September 6, 1951 in Watertown, SD to George and Ada Ruth (Grovenberg) Moss. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1969 and Sioux Falls College in 1971. Ruth married Dennis Riedel on April 7, 1972 at Plateau Chapel in Watertown. They lived in Watertown and Ruth worked at St. Ann's Hospital. They moved to Flandreau in 1982 and she worked at the Pipestone County Medical Center. Her husband preceded her in death on August 9, 1991. Ruth married Bill McFarland on August 15, 1992 at Lake Herman State Park. She worked at the Dell Rapids Medical Clinic until 1992 when she became the outreach laboratory consultant at Avera McKennan Regional Laboratory. Ruth was a member of the Trent Baptist Church, ASCLS-SD and ASCP.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; one son, Chad Riedel, Sioux Falls; two daughters, Jennifer Riedel, Brookings, Denise Riedel, Flandreau; and three stepdaughters, Casi McFarland, Baltimore, MD, Staci Conley, Cincinnati, OH and Billie Jo McFarland, Brookings; two grandchildren, Kiley Riedel and Regan Conley; three brothers, Robert (Maecille) Moss, Medford, OR, Lewis (Cheryl) Moss, Estacada, OR and Jerry Moss, Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis, her parents, three brothers, Harold Moss, Richard Moss and Fredrich Moss; and one sister, Edith Berger.


Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Trent Baptist Church with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation begins at 3:00 pm Monday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
