Ruth Hazel Larson, 99, of Egan, SD, passed away, Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Edgewood Assisted Living, Flandreau. Ruth was born November 4, 1921 at Volga, SD to Edward and Ella Twedt being one of 18 children. She was baptized and confirmed at Oslo Lutheran Church rural Volga and received her education at Oslo Country School. Ruth then worked at a local grocery store. She married Vernon "Todd" Larson on July 17, 1948 in Sioux Falls. They farmed in Egan Township where Ruth lived until July 2020 when she moved to Edgewood Assisted Living in Flandreau where she was given wonderful care. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Church Circles, WELCA, a neighborhood club, MWC (Moody Women's Club). Ruth was always hard working and helped with farm chores of all types. She led a simple life and had everything she wanted. Her cooking was enjoyed by everyone with many favorite recipes such as lefse, cinnamon rolls, homemade buns and other Norwegian dishes. Her grandchildren learned to cook and drink coffee from her.
Ruth is survived by her children: Allen (Jeannie), Dean (Diana), both of Flandreau, Dennis, Egan; four grandchildren: Aaron, Kimberly, Ashley (Brad Heyne) and Shelby (Cy Barnes); 8 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Olivia, Gavin, Tristan, Micah, Tenley, Brinley and Oliver; her sister Ione Hotchkin, Sioux Falls; a longtime friend Doris Haugen, Flandreau and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Todd (January 25, 2005), parents and 16 siblings.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Friday, February 19, 2021 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with burial in Clare Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be one hour preceding services at the church.
