Rose M. Schmid, 93, formerly of Flandreau, SD, passed away July 28, 2014 under hospice care. Rose was born August 17, 1920 in Avon, MN to Paul and Mary (Huntzka) Pierskalla. She was one of 16 children and went to a rural school. After graduating from St. Cloud High School, Rose moved to California and married Gil Schmid on November 16, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA. While living in California, they had three children. In November of 1952 they moved to Flandreau, SD. They purchased Gambles Hardware Store in 1969 and sold the business in 1985. She was preceded in death by her son Darrell on January 17, 1969 and her husband Gil on August 2, 2005. Rose moved to Texas to live near her daughter Linda in 2009. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Dance Club and a bridge group.

Rose is survived by a daughter Linda (Harlan) Frey, Arlington, TX, a son David (Betty), Granger, IN, seven grandchildren, Daniel Frey, Terry Frey, Pam Bendorf, Joshua Leer, Heather Bumbaca, Holly Schmid, Sarah Budd and 13 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin, Michael, Toni, Christina, Chad, Audrianna, Isabella, Caiden, Cosimo, Micah, Sophia and George. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents and 15 brothers and sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 4:00-7:00 pm with a 5:00 pm scripture service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
