Ronald K. Utech, age 70, of Dell Rapids passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Ron was born March 24, 1940 at Heron Lake, MN to Wesley and Florence (Renken) Utech. He was raised in Le Mars, IA and moved to Trent in 1956. Ron graduated from Trent High School in 1958. On December 9, 1960 he married Lorraine Carlson in Trent. They lived in the Trent area where he farmed and they raised their family. Ron worked for Cargill in Trent where he retired in 1998 after 20 years of service. He then worked for Colton Elevator where he retired as manager in 2005. In 1996 they moved to Dell Rapids where they have resided. Ron was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council for many years and was president twice. He was a member of the Trent Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for many years. Ron was an integral part of revitalizing softball in Trent. He liked the Twins and Vikings, following his grandchildren in sports, golfing and bowling.

Ron is survived by his wife, Lorraine, Dell Rapids; 3 children, Steven (Darcy) Utech, Dell Rapids, Greg (Amy) Utech, Hubbard, NE, June (Jeff) Eng, Brookings; 10 grandchildren, Abby, Lexy, Scott, Zach, Jordan, Josie, Shelby, Katie Jo, Matthew, Hannah; 3 brothers, Marlin (Anna) Utech, Dell Rapids, Wendell (Kathy) Utech, Grinnell, IA and Terry (Sue) Utech, Windom, MN. Ron was preceded in death by his son, Dean and his parents.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau with burial at Oslo Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday starting at 5:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
