Ronald E. Scheidel, 75, died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Ron was born November 21, 1933in Tacoma, WA to Henry and Margaret (Kommers) Scheidel. His family moved to California during his childhood years. After graduating from El Monte High School in 1951, Ron joined the army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He joined the El Monte Police Department in 1961 and retired as a sergeant in 1984. He continued working for the El Monte Police Department as a civilian employee as a records supervisor and chief staff assistant until 1999 when Ron sustained an injury. Ron has resided with his daughter, Wendy, in South Dakota living at Riverview Manor for the last several years. Ron was a member of the Peace Officers Association, Glendora Elks Lodge, Glendora Mason Lodge, Citrus Shrine Club of Covina and he was a fish and game warden in California. His passion was ham radio, fishing and bowling.

Grateful for sharing his life are his two daughters, Cynthia K. (Brent) Richey, Discovery Bay, CA and Wendy (Troy) Allen-Wipf, Dell Rapids, SD; five grandchildren, Jake, Leanna, Joshua, Zachary, Marissa; an aunt, Josephine Baker and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with burial in Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Cemetery. Visitation begins at 5:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
