Obituary

Ronald F. Fox, 83, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Riverview Manor. He was born January 6, 1928 at Doon, IA to Rolland and Elizabeth (Sluiter) Fox. His family moved to the Moody County area when he was a young child and he attended country school and Egan High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 10, 1951 and was honorably discharged on February 10, 1953. Ron married Marlene R. Loehr on September 4, 1953 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau. They lived in Sioux Falls where he worked for John Morrell and then moved to Flandreau and Ron farmed in the Colman and Flandreau area until December 1977. They moved to Brookings and he worked in the Plant Service Department at SDSU and then a rendering company until he retired in 1993. Ron worked part-time in maintenance for the Brookings Fire Department and at Twin City Fan. In August of 1998 they moved to Flandreau and Ron worked at Royal River Casino until December 2007. His wife preceded him in death on April 8, 2011. Ron was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau VFW and enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards and house and yard work.

Ron is survived by 4 children, Rodney (Karla) Fox, Madison, SD, Deb (Barry) Whipkey, Huron, Patty (Dan) Gilbertson, Arvada, CO, Pam (Rick) Boever, Flandreau; 9 grandchildren, Rita Mwele, Deb (Seth) Borah, Craig Fox, Cory (Amanda) Whipkey, Annie (Paul) Thury, Barry Lee (Sarah) Whipkey, Danielle Gilbertson, Miranda (Jeremy) Geraets, Ryan Boever; 2 step-grandchildren, Alisha (Dave) Riemenschneider, Brett (Jen) Marquardt; 10 great-grandchildren, Sophia Mwele, MaKaylyn, MadLyn and DiLyn Borecky, Lincoln, Landon and Rilyn Thury, Henry & Ellie Whipkey, Aiden Geraets; 5 step-great-grandchildren, Jaelyn, Grace and Blake Riemenschneider, Adison and Tavin Marquardt ; twin brother Donald (Dort), Hutchinson, MN; brother Harold (Mick), Princeton, MO; sister Eleanor (Tom) McMahon, Sioux Falls, sister-in-law Judy (Mert) Hanson, Nunda. He was preceded in death by his wife Molly; a grandson Dustin Fox; 2 great-grandsons Tanner and Hudson Whipkey and his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is Friday with the family present from 5:00-8:00 pm at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
