Robert W. Westover, 87, died Thursday at the Dell Rapids Area Health Center, Dell Rapids, SD. He was born August 5, 1921 at Dell Rapids and was raised by his mother, Maude (Munk) Westover. He received his education at Dell Rapids Public School and then joined the CCC in the Black Hills. He enlisted in the navy during WWII and was married to Arline Thompson on December 30, 1944 in Sioux Falls. After his discharge, Bob farmed in Moody County and then ran a feed grinder business. Then Bob worked for the Egan Grain Company until retiring in 1988. They moved to Dell Rapids in 2001. Bob was a member of the Dell Rapids Methodist Church, Egan American Legion, was a former member of the Egan Volunteer Fire Department and the Egan City Council.

Bob is survived by his wife, Arline; 10 children: Mark (Roxann), Garretson, Tom (Barb), Egan, Barbara (Jim) Schenck, Barnesville, MN, Mary (Gordon) Lee, Clear Lake, Warren (Lisa), Sioux Falls, Terry (Tammy), Dell Rapids, Dale (Susan), Dakota Dunes, Todd (Jacqueline), Garretson, Rich (Kelley), Colman, Peggy (Shaun) Bell, Harrisonville, MO; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Westover, Cambridge, MN; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Merle and his mother, Maude.


Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at the Dell Rapids United Methodist Church with burial in Lone Rock Cemetery, rural Flandreau. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Sunday with a 4:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
