Robert (Bob) William Landis was born on September 22, 1948, at Flandreau Hospital to Donald and Minerva (Moore) Landis. He grew up in Colman, SD, alongside his three older sisters, Delores, Shirley, and Donna Mae.
Bob attended grade school at Whaley Country School #5 in Egan, SD and completed his education in Colman, SD graduating in 1966. On September 20, 1966, he entered the United States Air Force. He served as military security police, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. Bob was honorably discharged on September 6, 1970.
Following his military service, Bob returned home and attended traffic school in Minneapolis, MN, where he met his future wife, Patty. The couple married on August 21, 1971 in Williamsport, PA. They lived in Pennsylvania for three and a half years before returning to Colman, SD.
Bob worked at the Colman Farmers Co-op for 16 years before starting his own business selling agricultural chemicals out of the back of his pickup. This venture grew into Landis Ag Sales, founded in 1990. Bob was joined at the feed store by sons, Jason and Justin, and eventually grandson, Alec. He retired from the business in August of 2022.
Bob and Patty raised three sons, Jason, Nathan, and Justin. Bob often said, "I believe I sat on a bleacher half my life," faithfully attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Throughout his life, Bob participated in men's league softball and was a member of Colman Lutheran Church, Shaffer-Lellelid American Legion Post 278, and the Colman Economic Board. In 2023, he was inducted into the Colman-Egan Hall of Fame.
Bob is survived by his sons, Jason (Jennifer) Landis of Colman, SD, Nathan Landis of Sioux Falls, SD, and Justin (Brandi) Landis of Colman, SD; eight grandchildren, Alec (Zoe) Landis of Flandreau, SD, Kennedi Landis, Kadance Landis, Brynlee Landis, Mauryn Landis, Paxtyn Landis, Banks Landis, and Lakyn Landis; sisters, Delores Warfield of Torrington, WY, Shirley (Mark) Schoeberl of Castle Rock, CO, and Donna Mae (Roger) Pottratz of Chandler, TX.
