Robert Carl Janssen, 77, of Trent, SD passed away at the family farm on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Trent Baptist Church in Trent, SD. The family will be present from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.

Robert Janssen was born May 6, 1948 to Hauko and Valborg Janssen at Chester, SD.  He grew up and received his education in Trent and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1967.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on the USS Granville S. Hall.  He was active from 1967-1969 and then was in the reserve until 1974.  After being discharged, he moved back to Trent.  Robert was then united in marriage to Norma Damm January 24, 1976.  To this union the couple had three children, Nora, LeeAnn, and Dan.

He was a farmer and worked up until fall of 2024.  Robert's hobbies included fishing and hunting, collecting antique tractors and attending shows.

Robert was a member of the American Legion for 54 years, a life-time member of the Trent Baptist Church, and a volunteer fire fighter for Trent, SD.

Robert is survived by his children, Nora (Scott) Kohlenberg, Mitchell, SD, LeeAnn Janssen, Trent, SD, Dan Janssen, Dell Rapids, SD; grandchildren, Amber and Aaron Kohlenberg; siblings, Sharon Scherff (Melvin), Trent, SD, MaryAnn Nelson, Dell Rapids, SD, step-brother, Rick Hoil (Grace), Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Janssen; parents, Hauko and Valborg Janssen; step-mother, Gladys Janssen; and brother-in-law, Curtis Nelson.
