Robert H. Deiterman, 88, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Aver McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Robert was born October 26, 1920 on a farm east of Dell Rapids, SD to Joseph and Eleanor (Kirpus) Deiterman. He was educated in Moody County Country Schools and started farming with his Dad. Robert entered the Army on October 20, 1942 and served in the Normandy Invasion and The Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945. He returned to Moody County and continued to farm. On June 6, 1950 he married Agnes P. DeLay in Flandreau, SD. He farmed with his brother, Arnold until 1976 and then with his son, Ed. Agnes preceded him in death on July 7, 2002. Robert was a member of the Flandreau VFW, Elkton American Legion Post #198, Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton and a former board member of the Ward Township. Robert had a very close relationship to his granddaughter, Janae.

Robert is survived by a son, Edward Deiterman and 1 granddaughter, Janae. Robert was preceded in death by his wife; 2 grandchildren, Joseph and Elizabeth; his parents; 2 infant brothers, Ralph and Orville; 2 brothers, Arnold Deiterman and Leonard Deiterman and 2 sisters, Marie Van Vooren and Donna Staab.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton with a scripture service at 7:00 PM.
