Richard J. Van De Berg passed away March 29, 2013 at Southridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls. He was born July 1, 1928 at Orange City, IA to Henry and Cornelia (Van't Hol) Van De Berg. He was second of nine children. Richard grew up farming and after his education served in the United States Army from February 1951 to January 1953 with service in Japan and South Korea. After his service, he continued farming near Doon, IA and Colman, SD. Rich was an avid farmer. He enjoyed selling and buying John Deere tractors and working with farm machinery. He enjoyed traveling the back roads of South Dakota looking at farms and crops. Richard was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Brookings, SD.
Richard is survived by two brothers: David of Colman, SD and Stanley (Judie), Sioux Falls, SD, several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews and his coffee friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Lillian (Van De Berg) De Boer, and infants Arloa and Marjorie Van De Berg, three brothers, Andrew, Willard, Elmer, brother-in-law Theran De Boer, a niece Arloa Jean De Boer, and nephew Leon Bruce De Boer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Faith Reformed Church in Brookings with burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colman. Visitation begins at 10:00 am until service time.
