Richard D. Tschetter, 70, of Pleasant Valley Colony, Flandreau, passed away at home on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Richard was born on April 11, 1951 to Daniel and Maria Tschetter at New Elm Springs Colony. In 1958, he moved to Big Stone Colony where he was baptized upon confession of faith in 1973. On July 1, 1973 he was united in marriage to Dora Gross. Together, they were blessed with 48 years of marriage, 2 children, and 9 grandchildren.

Growing up, we could never relate to dad not having time for us. He always had a listening ear and a helping hand when we needed one. Grandpa was always there for his grandchildren and loved them dearly. He was never too tired to tell them stories or listen to theirs. He spent endless evenings with the kids talking about his "good old days in Big Stone", and travelling to Bon Homme with his dad and mom as a young boy. Those were his favorite childhood memories and he loved sharing those memories with us. Grandpa was getting tired. Travelling and visiting old friends and family was always a pleasure to him. But over the last few years, aside from visiting his daughter, Janet and spending time with her family at Wheatland Colony, he was happy to stay at home and relax with Grandma, whom he loved and cared for dearly.

Son Jason, wife Rebecca, and children: Jadon, Joseph, Kaitlyn, Jedaiah, TeAnna, Jesse, and Nathanial.

Daughter, Janet, husband, Steven, and children: Stephanie and Noah.

His brothers, Ben, John, and sister, Rachel.

And numerous brothers and sisters-in-law in Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Maria Tschetter, and parents-in-law, Andrew and Rachel Gross.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Pleasant Valley Colony, Flandreau with burial in the colony cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday at 4:00 pm at the colony.
