Obituary

Richard C. Headrick, 86, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home. He was born September 3, 1927 at Flandreau, SD to James and Cora (Jones) Headrick, Sr. He received his education at Moody County country schools and then started farming with his father. Richard married LaVonne Heinemann on November 22, 1950 at Flandreau, SD and they farmed northwest of Flandreau. Richard retired from farming in 1992 and then drove semi-truck for Jim Jones, Duncan Truck and various trucking companies. They moved in to Flandreau the fall of 2013. Richard was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. He enjoyed crafts, gardening, driving truck and woodworking which included building all of the buildings on their farm.

He is survived by his wife LaVonne, 4 children, Valerie (Ray) Luze, Egan, SD, Garland (Laura) Headrick, Malcolm, NE, Kent (Theresa) Headrick, Flandreau, Geriann Headrick, Flandreau, foster daughter Ramona Powell, Byers, CO, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Denny) Fouberg, Madison, SD, Chad (Lori) Luze, Redwood Falls, MN, Rick (Brittney) Luze, Egan, Ryan (Natalie )Headrick, Lincoln, NE, Jared (Allyson) Headrick, Lincoln, NE, Dustin (Miranda) Headrick, Flandreau, Shantel (Pat) Kelly, Hartford, 17 great-grandchildren, Hudson and Ramsey Fouberg, Lola, Logan and Luke Luze, Reese, Presley, Finley and Cruz Luze, William and Mia Headrick, Kennedy and Carson Headrick, Jaxon Leslie, Ashley, Gabrielle and Brooklyn Kelly, 3 siblings, Lois Sorenson, Brookings, John (Marilyn) Headrick, Sioux Falls, Nadine Boever, Sumner, WA, mother-in-law Mabel Heinemann, Flandreau and sister-in-law Margaret Headrick, Flandreau. He was preceded by his parents, 4 brothers, Vernon, Claire, Clifford and James, Jr. and three sisters, Blanche, Marge and Mildred.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 5:00 pm Wednesday with a 7:00 pm scripture service and rosary at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
