Randy Scott Johanson 65 of Flandreau, SD passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at home, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, humor, pranks, love, and many cherished memories. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 16, 2024 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Flandreau. The family will be present for visitation from 3:00PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
Randy was born August 2, 1959 to Bob and Sally (Lacey) Johanson in Flandreau, SD. He attended early elementary at Chamberlain Country School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1977. After high school Randy spent a decade bull riding in the International Professional Rodeo Association. He traveled all around with the Rodeo and won the circuit in 1982. While rodeoing, Randy started his Triple J Hay business with custom haying and swathing, which he continued up until his passing, known to many as the "Hay King." He worked as a baler mechanic for Ellis and Capp which led him to Greeley, CO where he met his wife, Deb Jennings.
Randy and Deb were married on December 14, 1991 in Greeley. They moved to Beaver Creek, MN shortly after, where he started to make a farm wife out of Deb. His two sons, Jake and Bobby were born, then they moved to Flandreau. There Randy continued to grow Triple J Hay with his two sons by his side. You were ready to drive a tractor when Randy said you were ready.
Randy enjoyed watching westerns, Gunsmoke, deer hunting, rodeos, and above all else, his work and anything to do with hay. Randy's work ethic is something that lives on in his two boys and grandsons already. He loved his family and many lifelong friends- including Dougy, Micky, and Joey.
When Randy received his diagnosis, he never accepted defeat. He fought as hard as he had his whole life, continuing to work up until the end- even helping others fix balers through FaceTime.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 32 years, Deb; his sons, Jake (Jessica) and Bobby (Morgan); grandchildren, Tate and Wade, all of Flandreau. He is also survived by his brother, Brett (Kim) Johanson of Flandreau, sister, Marla, (Gary) Lang, Sioux Falls, sister-in-law, Connie Jennings of Brush, CO, mother-in-law, Shirley Jennings of Flandreau, his aunt, uncle, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished friends, and pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Sally Johanson, sisters, Deb Johanson and Kathy Dietrich, brother, Craig Johanson, and father-in-law, Harold Jennings.
