Obituary

Rachael L. Blandenier, 90, of Madison formerly of Flandreau, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Avera Dells Area Hospital, Dell Rapids. Rachael was born May 11, 1921 at Flandreau to Guy and Teresa (Cronin) Smith. She grew up and attended school in Egan and graduated from Egan High School in 1939. Rachael continued her education at Nettleton College in Sioux Falls. She worked various bookkeeping jobs. On July 21, 1952 she married Charles A. Blandenier at Flandreau. She raised her daughter Charla and worked part-time for the City of Flandreau and Moody County. In 1979 they moved to Egan until moving to Flandreau in 1990. Charles preceded her in death on April 27, 1987. In 2001 Rachael moved to Madison to live with her daughter. Rachael loved to knit, crochet, write letters and socialize with her family and friends. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and the North Get-Together Club.

Rachael is survived by her daughter, Charla (Jim) Callahan, Madison; 2 grandchildren, James Robert Callahan, Madison, Jennifer Lynn Callahan (Jason Davis) Monticello, MN; 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Charles; several cousins, nieces and nephews and her special family of Joe and Pat Callahan, their 12 children and their families. Rachael was preceded in death by her husband; parents and a brother, Louie Smith.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 2 PM at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-7 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a 7 PM rosary. www.skrochfc.com
