Obituary

Phyllis Johnson, 92, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Bethel Lutheran Home, Madison. Phyllis was born February 16, 1918 at Colman, SD to Joseph and Blanche (Lampson) Trottman. As a small child, she spent her life in Moody County attending rural schools and graduating from Colman High School in 1937. On October 16, 1938, she married Clarence B. Johnson at Brookings, SD. They farmed in Moody County and after retiring from farming in 1966 moved to Nunda, SD. They made their home in Madison, SD beginning in 1968. Phyllis did day care for 16 years and enjoyed her flower gardens, needlework and crocheting. She loved being a homemaker and being with her family. Clarence passed away August 21, 1991. Phyllis continued living in her home until 2007 when ill health brought her to her new home at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Madison.

Phyllis is survived by three sons, Gary (Rochelle) and Vere (Sallie), of Madison, Steven (special friend, Dorothy Zeitler) of Wentworth; one daughter, Cheryl (Floyd) Havrevold of Volga, SD; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, her parents, one brother, Lester and one sister, Jeanne.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Madison with burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, rural Colman, SD. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman. Memorials are preferred to the Bethel Lutheran Home Foundation.
