Orville A. Waxdahl, 92, died Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Orville was born April 2, 1916 S.E. of Flandreau in Grovena Township to Bernt and Sophie Waxdahl. He attended Juve Country School and graduated from Egan High School in 1934. Orville won a trip to the Chicago World's fair for his 4-H project. Orville started farming S.E. of Flandreau and he married Irma Grace Dunn on December 23, 1939 at Flandreau. Irma Grace preceded Orville in death on July 5, 2000. He entered Bethel Lutheran Home in April of 2006. Orville was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, a former member of Lone Rock Lutheran Church, was on the board of directors of Bethel Lutheran Home during its construction, taught Sunday school, and held many church offices.
He is survived by a daughter, Florence (Delbert) Smallfield, Bloomington, MN; 2 sons: Gordon (Ginnie) and Donald (Rosanne) all of Flandreau;7 grandchildren: Brad, Tyler (Myra), Bill (Kris), Tricia (Dave Warner), Joy (Sid Grassbaugh), Heather, and Josh; 8 great-grandchildren: Brittney, Branden, Nathan, Sarah, Erika, Jonah, Justin and Caitlin. Orville was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Birger.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau with burial in Lone Rock Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2 pm Friday with a 7 pm prayer service all at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison for Orville's wonderful care while he lived there.
