Norma Grace Janssen, 59, died, Thursday, November 6, 2008 at her farm home near Trent after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Norma was born January 8, 1949 in Sioux Falls, SD to Kenneth and Georgia (Earl) Damm. She received her education at Dockstetter Country School, Trent High School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1967. She worked at Sears in New Ulm, MN and then Northwest National Bank in Brookings. Norma married Robert Janssen on January 24, 1976 in Trent and they farmed southeast of Trent. Norma knit 82 afghans for many people for special occasions, enjoyed crocheting, and she had a huge garden over the years, canning and freezing much produce. She was known as "The Lollipop Lady" for the thousands of sweet treats that she made on a stick over the years. Norma was a member of Trent Baptist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and Girl Scout leader and was honored at the 2008 American Cancer Society Walk/Run.
Norma is survived by her husband, Bob; three children, Nora (Scott) Kohlenberg, Pierre, LeeAnn Janssen, Trent and Daniel Janssen, Dell Rapids; a granddaughter, Amber; her mother, Georgia Krier, Dell Rapids; five siblings, Dwayne (Lorraine) Damm, Bridgewater, Velma (Vern) Auren, Flandreau, Darrell (Judy) Damm, Sioux Falls, Richard Damm, Dell Rapids, Raymond (Cleo) Damm, Sioux Falls She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth; stepfather, Leavern; a niece, LaDena and a nephew, Dennis.
Services will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 10, 2008, at the Trent Baptist Church with burial in the Trent Cemetery. Visitation begins 2:00 pm Sunday with a 5:00 pm scripture service all at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
