Neva L. Luze, 89, of Brookings, SD, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at the United Living Community, Brookings. She was born to John and Bertha (Lee) Keenan on August 26, 1924 at the Flandreau Hospital, Flandreau, SD. Neva was raised on a farm, attended and graduated from Fletcher District 28 of Moody County and from Flandreau High School. She worked as a Nanny in Omaha, Nebraska for a period of time before marrying Martin Luze at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton, SD on June 19, 1943. They farmed in Alton Township, Brookings County for many years. Neva became a resident at United Living Center in Brookings in 2011. Her husband preceded her in death on April 28, 2012. She enjoyed raising her family, gardening, vacationing, dancing, and crossword puzzles. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton and was a current member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings.

Neva is survived by her seven sons, Sylvester (Jan), Bettendorf, IA, Philip (Barbara), Brookings, Raymond (Valerie), Egan, SD, Gregory (Anna Beth), Franklin, TN, Daniel (Gail), Estelline, SD, Thomas (Cheryl), Egan, Charles (Jeanette), Sioux Falls, one daughter Susan (Myron) Lang, Washington, IL, one son-in-law Charles (Jackie) Richter, Colman, SD, 34 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Neva was preceded in death by her husband Martin, one daughter, Bernadette Ann Richter, granddaughter Christine Richter Guetzloff, parents, three brothers, Francis, James and John Keenan, and six sisters, Alyce Cunningham, Agnes Stuefen, Florence Raymond, Kenora Trageser, Genora Reitmeier, and twin sister Norma Hunter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation from 6 – 8 pm Friday at the church with an 8 pm Rosary.
