Myrtle K. Shackelford, 93, died Sunday at Riverview Manor, Flandreau. Myrtle was born February 26, 1915 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Canada to Edward and Margaret (Miller) Dailey. Her family moved to the Dailey Homestead southeast of Flandreau and she attended country school and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1934. Myrtle attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton and graduated in 1938 as a registered nurse. She worked in Kankakee, IL and was married to Floyd Snyder in January 1942 in Kankakee. After her husband was killed in January 1945 while serving during WWII, she returned to Flandreau and worked for Dr. Boyd. Myrtle married Fred Shackelford on December 31, 1952 in Dell Rapids. She loved South Dakota where her and her husband lived until his death on September 27, 1997. Myrtle was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, P.E.O., and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to play bridge and travel.
Myrtle is survived by one son, David (Marshann) Snyder, Fairfax, VA; one daughter, Peggy (Jerry) Zablocki, Lake Mills, WI; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents and three brothers, Howard, Warren and William.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Tuesday with a 7:30 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
