Minnie B. Locke, age 88, passed away peacefully in her home in Flandreau, SD on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Minnie was born on December 16, 1933, in Poteau, Oklahoma, to Charles and Ethel (Chitwood)  Duncan. They moved to California in 1942 and to Flandreau in 1945. Minnie graduated from Flandreau High School in 1951 and South Dakota State University with a degree in Home Economics. She married long-time sweetheart Robert E. Locke on July 28, 1954. She taught for two years in Rapid City while her husband, Robert, served in the US Army. Returning to Flandreau, Robert joined his father working at Locke Agency, and Minnie was a "stay-at-home mom" while being active in the Second Presbyterian Church – especially PW and circles, where she served as officer for many years and was a youth leader, Sunday School teacher and a choir member.  She also was a co-leader of a Girl Scout troop and a member of the Moody County Historical Society and other community groups. Minnie enjoyed gardening, cooking, serving the community and her church.

Minnie is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Jim) Holbeck of Renner, SD; Marcia (Barry) Kooiman of Flandreau, SD; and Janet Locke of Danville, PA.; five grandchildren, Jason (Malia) Holbeck, Bethany (JJ) Cramblit, Nathan (Brianne) Holbeck, Lea Kooiman, Bobby (Debbi Jones) Kooiman; seven great-grandchildren, Avary, Daisy, Alivia, Torin, Haydin, Charlie and Oliver; sister Charla McNeff; sisters-in-law, Margaret West and Trudy Felix; and several nieces and nephews.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband Robert of 67 years on March 29, 2022, parents, Charles and Ethel Duncan, son-in-law Terrance Riley, and many other family and friends.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Second Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Prairie St., Flandreau, SD 57028 or to the Moody County Historical Society, 706 E. Pipestone Ave., Flandreau, SD  57028.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Second Presbyterian Church, Flandreau.
