Obituary

Mildred R. Hiller, 98, formerly of Flandreau, SD, passed away, Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor, Sioux Falls. Mildred was born December 16, 1916, on a farm between Valley Springs, SD and Larchwood, IA, to Henry and Mary (Sauer) Pien. Mildred went to school in Iowa and then moved to the Colman, SD area. She met her husband Edward Hiller at a dance. Mildred was married to Ed on February 24, 1936 in Brookings, SD. The early part of her life was spent raising her children. Then she worked for SD Home Healthcare. Her husband preceded her in death September 24, 1998. Mildred moved to Sioux Falls in 2000 and became a resident at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in March 2015. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Mildred enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing and cooking. She was delighted to have grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had cookies for her kids and the little ones.

Mildred is survived by three children, Judy (Vernon) Peterson, Snohomish, WA, Janice Mills, Volga, SD, Jay Hiller, Reno, NV, two daughters-in-law, Mary Hiller and Karen Hiller, both of Sioux Falls, 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, six children, Beverly, John, Joyce, Jerry, JoAnn, and James, three grandsons-in-law and three siblings, Donna, Cleo, and Melvin and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 pm Friday, May 15, 2015 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, with burial in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Colman. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
