Merle P. Headrick, 94, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls. Merle was born September 18, 1921 on a farm near Flandreau, SD to William Roy and Berthine Thressa (Gulbranson) Headrick. He attended Smith Grade School and graduated from Egan High School in 1939. Merle worked for Carl Aarness operating a grinder feed mill and also drove for A.L. Storer Trucking. Merle married the neighbor girl, Bertina "Tina" Eidsness, January 26, 1953, at the Presbyterian Manse by Rev. Wesley Drummond. In the spring of 1953 they moved to his father's farm due to his father's illness. They had two children; the first born was Sheila Lynn. She was born August 25, 1955 and the second, Gary Michael, was born October 21, 1958. They farmed for 31 years and then moved to Harvey, LA in 1983. In 1985 they moved to Grapevine, TX, and Merle worked for Wal-Mart. He continued to work for Wal-Mart after they moved to Canton, SD, in 2006 until his retirement in 2012. Merle was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and Canton Lutheran Church.

Merle is survived by his two children, Sheila Headrick, Gary (Ronda), all of Canton, seven grandchildren, Michael Allison, Russell Allison, Evan (Linh Nguyn) Allison, Trevor (Brittany) Allison, Beau Headrick, Raven Hill, Tara (Tony) Tysinger, nine great-grandchildren, Sydney, Dakota, Stone, Rowen, Quentin, Chelsea, Cohen, Preslee, Leighton, one sister Marlys Moberg, Sioux Falls, and nieces and nephews. Merle was preceded in death by his wife Tina, parents, infant brother Curtis, two brothers, William and Robert, and a foster brother Elwin Johnson.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Second Presbyterian Church, Flandreau, SD, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
