Obituary

Melva J. Mangan, 81, of Elkton died Sunday at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Melva Jane Mangan was born October 4, 1926 to George and Mabel (Carlson) McCuen in White, SD. As a young child she and her family moved to Elkton where she graduated from Elkton High School in 1944. On November 12, 1946 Melva married Neil Mangan in Elkton. Prior to her retirement she worked at SDSU as a lab tech in the Histopath Lab in the Veterinary Science Department. Her husband preceded her in death on August 3, 1984. Melva loved crafts, making quilts, playing cards and going to coffee with friends. She loved going on trips with her cousin Rachel to Texas and Branson, MO. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and Red Hat Society.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara (Ken) Allgaier of Trent, Leann (Bill) Fricke of Belle Fourche, Pauline (Terry) Parker of Denver, CO; 9 grandchildren, Jenny (Cory) Jones, Kirsten (Joe) Griffith, Shelly (Jason) Curry, Nikki (Darren) Berg, Mike (Amie) Mangan, Kayla Parker, Chris Parker, Nick Nussbaum, Lindsay Gendill; 8 great-grandchildren, Avry Mangan, Aden Mangan, Anya Mangan, Blake Mangan, Josh Griffith, Alex Griffith, Taylor Griffith, Mason Griffith and 2 more due in May and several nieces and nephews. Melva was preceded in death by her husband; son, Tim; parents; brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Mary McCuen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Elkton. Visitation will begin at 5:30 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton with a 7PM scripture service and rosary.
