Maxine Doyle, 93, passed away January 30, 2013 in Mission Hills, CA. Maxine Louise Brown was born January 1, 1920 on a farm north of Flandreau, South Dakota to Waldo and Ella (Mellin) Brown. She received her education in rural schools and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1938. Maxine and her sister Norma then moved to California, where they worked as "Rosie Riveters," building airplanes during World War II. She married Harold Doyle in Van Nuys, California on September 4, 1942, where Harold was stationed in the Army. They returned to South Dakota after the war, where they farmed until 1952. They then moved to California, where they worked for Bendix/Allied Signal. Maxine worked there for 42 years. Harold and Maxine joined Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church in 1965, and she remained an active and faithful member throughout the years. Harold preceded her in death on October 21, 1981. Maxine retired in 1996 and following her retirement, Maxine kept busy with gardening, daily Bible devotions, reading the daily newspaper and watching her beloved Los Angeles Lakers. Ill health in her later years slowed her activities. Maxine was then assisted by her devoted long-term caregivers, Yolanda and Susan.
