Mavis P. (Erickson Bain) Layton passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Mavis was born March 6, 1931, at her family homestead near Flandreau, to Albin and Dorothy (Doyle) Erickson. While living in South Dakota, Mavis was employed by the ASC Services of Moody and Brookings counties. After moving to Wisconsin Rapids in 1967, Mavis was employed at Johnson Hills Central Office and Wood County Department of Social Services. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Council of Catholic Women, South Wood County Heart Club, and the Lowell Senior Center. Mavis enjoyed her friends and family.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Survivors include five sons: Bruce (Tracy) Bain, Dousman, WI; Boyd (Kim) Bain of Allen, TX; Craig Bain of Arpin, WI; David (Virginia) Bain of Portage, WI; and Jeff (Sara) Bain of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; two daughters: Marcia (Dominic) Yoia of Wallingford, CT, and Dawn Bain (Tim Lear) of Sioux Falls, SD; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sister, June Schroeder, sister-in-law, Betty Erickson, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Earl Bain, Carl Layton, companion John Moore, her parents, sister and brother-in-law (Arles and Eugene Fassett), two brothers (Dean and Dale Erickson), and brother-in-law Roy Schroeder.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held at the Church on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Graveside services will take place at Ss. Simon & Jude Cemetery in Flandreau, S.D. on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
