Mary Jane Johnson, 73, of Flandreau, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Riverview Healthcare Center, Flandreau. Mary was born in Sioux Falls on February 10, 1947 to Floyd Johnson and Emma (Gullickson) Johnson. She grew up on the farm near Egan and graduated from Egan High School in 1965. After, she went to Sioux Falls for Stewart's School of Hairstyling and then to Minneapolis for a medical reception program. Mary returned to South Dakota and began her tenure as a CNA at Riverview Manor, spanning over three decades. After her retirement, Mary continued volunteering at the nursing home as a companion to residents receiving hospice care. She also volunteered at the local thrift store, Interlakes Community Action. Mary loved gardening and helping her brother, Perry, at the Sunny Slope Nursery and Strawberry Patch. She enjoyed crafts, cats, and Twins Baseball. She was a member of The Rescue Church of Flandreau. Mary loved people and was everyone's friend. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Meagan (Marvin) Ulmer, of Hermosa, SD; her grandchildren: Covey, Dominic, Marcus, and Samuel; her twin brother, Murray James (Kathryn) Johnson, Chadron, NE; sister, Judy (Dan) Whipple, Coon Rapids, MN; and her brother, Perry (Barbara) Johnson, Brookings, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Emma, and two brothers, Claus and F. David.
Private family services will take place. Livestream will be available to the public beginning 1:00 pm on Monday, December 7, 2020 by clicking Mary's obituary on the Skroch Funeral Chapel Website ( www.skrochfc.com ). Pastor Sam Pickard and Mary's niece, Rev. Katie Hatlevig will officiate. The public is invited to the burial following the service at Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Please be parked in the open area to the south by 2:00 pm. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the family will require masks and social distancing at the cemetery.
