Marvin Bergman, 71, of Lake Benton, MN passed away in his sleep Sunday, September 12, 2021 while traveling through Colorado. Marvin was the son of Leo and Laurene (LaFrenz) Bergman born on February 25, 1950. After high school he went to work for the South Dakota Highway Department, 3M in Brookings, owned the White, SD bar. Marvin moved to Colorado where he worked for Tara Produce and K&M Meats selling and delivering meat and produce to resorts in Vail. He then moved to Arizona where he started a towing business hauling shipping containers all over the state until he retired in 2016. Marvin was always quick to offer his smile and help whenever it was needed. He had a great gift to help others through a difficult time and was very persistent. Marvin and Cheryl Dettmer have been a team since 1998 and were married on May 15, 2017 in Deadwood, SD. They had bought a house in Lake Benton, MN to reconnect with his family. Marvin was a member the Elkton United Parish and the Marshall American Legion where he was the Post Commander. Marvin enjoyed the outdoors including snowmobiling in the Black Hills and Colorado, four wheeling in Colorado, riding the sand dunes in Arizona and also dancing at the American Legion in Mesa, AZ.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Cheryl Dettmer; son, Steve (Jennifer); daughters, Julie and Jodi; stepson, Joshua (Nancy); sisters, Marlene (David) and Marlys; 7 grandchildren; 1 step grandson and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Marlen.
Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Elkton United Parish, Elkton with burial in Elkton City Cemetery.
