Marvel M. Bartelt, 92, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Riverview Manor, Flandreau. Marvel was born May 1, 1918 in Lincoln County, MN to William and Julia (Wooley) Munsch. She was educated in various country schools in Iowa and Minnesota. Marvel worked as a housekeeper in Elkton for Bernard and Helen Higgins where she met her future husband. Marvel was married to O.W. (Dick) Bartelt on April 17, 1936 in Lake Benton, MN. She was a housewife and raised four children. Marvel did various in-house jobs for people, was a cook at the Diamond Lunch Cafe and City Cafe and worked at the Elkton School as a cook until her retirement. Her husband preceded her in death on March 29, 1984. Marvel was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, 500 Club, Extension Group (Tuesday Nighters), PTA and Ladies Auxiliary. She liked to paint ceramics, play cards, sew, work on crafts and was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals.

Marvel is survived by 3 children, Donald "Dick" Bartelt, Sherwood, AR, JoAnn (Charles) Heesch, Elkton, Carole (Gordon) Wince, Belle Fourche; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, William Munsch, Pipestone; 3 sisters, Lucille (Ray) Muchlinski, Redwood Falls, MN, Eleanor Petersen, Sioux Falls, Eunice Kinsman, Nokomis, FL and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick; son, Gene; 2 grandchildren, Kaye Wince, Kevin Bartelt; great-great grandson, Logan Saunders; brother, Gene Munsch and sister, Julia Bainbridge-Sands.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton with a 7:00 PM scripture service.
