Martin John May, age 67, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 at his home near Trent. Martin was born May 3, 1944 to John and Dorothy (Voelkert) May in Madison, SD. Martin graduated from Troupe school in 1958 and Colman High School in 1962. He lived and worked with Norris and Nora Flatten and then Richard and Mary Ellen Flatten from the spring of 1958 until January 1967. On January 14, 1967 he married Brenda Leuning in Colman, SD. In December of 1969 he bought the farm they operated until his retirement in 2005. Martin was elected to the Moody County Commission in 2002 and served until his retirement last year. Martin loved hunting, fishing, camping with friends, restoring red tractors and flying his Cessna 172. He was dearly loved by his nine grandchildren and he was special to many others.

Martin is survived by his loving wife Brenda; three children Lori (Frank) Dailey, Blaine, MN, Michael (Andrea) May, La Grange, IL, Steven (Amy) May, Sterling, CO; nine grandchildren; Stephanie, Ryan, Raenah, Nolan, Jenna, Makenna, Jaren, Isabel and William; many nieces and nephews including Tyler, Jaden, Haley and Emma; siblings Robert (Barb) May, Brandon, SD, Dick (Sharlene) May, Allen, SD, Ruth Brende, Cambridge, MN, Kathy (Dan) Brenden, Tucson, AZ; sisters-in-law Joan Wangberg, Colman, SD and Jan May, Dell Rapids, SD, step-parents Ole and Viola Wangberg, Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Baby Jim Wangberg, Kenny Wangberg and Ray May and brother-in-law Jim Brende.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Messiah Lutheran Church with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan, SD. Visitation begins at 4:00 PM Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 PM prayer service. www.skrochfc.com
