Marian Conkling Putnam, 97, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Salem, OR. Marian was born June 29, 1911 in Lake Preston, SD to Peter and Marie (Justesen) Larsen and moved to Salem in 1957 from South Dakota. She was a teacher at North Salem High School, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salem. Among her hobbies was traveling and sewing clothes for needy children.
She is survived by a son, Ron (Rachel) Conkling of Flandreau, SD; one brother, Howard (Gina) Larsen, Rapid City, SD; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Frank Larsen and a sister, Helen Dahl. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
