IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marci Jo
Eng
February 3, 1962 – December 22, 2022
Marci Jo Eng, 60, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Flandreau, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with her husband by her side. Marci was born in Yankton, SD on February 3, 1962, to Larry Hauck and Judy (Huber) Jones, and was later adopted by Gordon Jones Sr. She spent her earlier childhood in Wagner, moving to Flandreau in 1970 where she graduated from Flandreau High School in 1980. She met her husband, Dale, in Flandreau and they were married on October 10, 1981. They had a lifelong marriage of 41 years and were blessed with 11 children.
Marci loved walking outdoors, listening to music, drawing, decorating, cooking, and eating out with family. Marci was a gifted artist who loved to create all sorts of arts and craft projects, especially with her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to Wednesday date nights with Dale and weekend getaways with her mom and auntie-sister. Throughout her life she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. This faith gave her great comfort in her journey, helping her to maintain a mindset filled with hope and gratitude. Marci devoted her life to her husband and children. Marci excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of her family. Marci was her kids' biggest cheerleader and constant supporter. She especially found joy in being a grandmother to her eighteen grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was an excellent gift giver, always thinking of ways to make her family feel special, and in doing so, she ensured that the Amazon employees stayed very busy. Marci especially loved making and sharing homemade treats with her family and no one could match her snack game. She was especially excited to plan this year's extravagant Christmas celebration and spent all her free time focusing on how to make others feel special and loved this holiday season.
Marci was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer in August 2020. Despite the doctor's prognosis and statistics, she fought to have more time by completing many rounds of palliative chemotherapy and radiation. She often would try to hide her pain so she could allow others to enjoy the experience of sharing special moments together. She used the time at chemo treatments to resume her love of art by coloring many intricate pictures, connecting with family through FaceTime videos, and making plans for upcoming family gatherings. To lighten the mood, Marci and her daughter Laura made a game of pilfering snacks and soda from the Prairie Center each time she went for treatment (unless the snack lady is reading this, then we are just kidding… we NEVER took snacks home).
Marci is survived by her husband, Dale; 10 children, 18 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild; Joshua (Carrie) and grandsons, Jordan and Jaxon and great-granddaughter Araylia; Lauralee (Chelsea); Jeremy (Kendra) and grandchildren, Jadon, Jaila, and Jael; Malissa; Katelynn (Chad) and grandchildren, Jacob, Lillian, Henry and Winston; Onya (Tanner) Colburn and grandchildren, Cali, Maverick, Gracelynn, Rori, and Lincoln; Joseph (Caitlyn) and grandson Nikola; Jessica (Brad) Bollich and granddaughters, Everly, Willow, and Oaklee; Julia (Drew); John; mother Judy (Huber) Jones, father Larry (Marilyn) Hauck, brothers, Alan (Jennifer), Gordon Jr. (Linda), and Charles (Melissa); and aunt, who was more like sister, Sherri (Dan Bitterman). Marci was preceded in death by her son Jacob Lawrence, her father Gordon Jones Sr., her grandparents, Edmund Huber and Charlotte (Huber) Dyvig and Harry and Bessie Jones, and niece Isabel Grace.
