Obituary

Lyle Heesch, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Edgewood Vista, Brookings, SD. He was born October 5, 1928 to Louis and Lillian (Engel) Heesch on the family farm west of Elkton, SD. Lyle attended his first years at Parnell District 5 Country School and then in Comfrey, MN through the eighth grade. The family moved back to Elkton and he graduated from Elkton High School. Lyle worked at the Corn Exchange Bank until he was drafted in 1950. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and was discharged in 1952. He returned to Elkton and worked at the Corn Exchange Bank until he retired. During his life, Lyle traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He saw the pyramids in Egypt, the Eiffel Tower, sat next to the Pope, visited Israel and the Taj Mahal. Lyle loved telling stories about his travels and collected lots of antiques and memorabilia. He was a member of United Parish of Elkton.

Lyle is survived by his sister Bev (Jim) Ehret, Benson, MN, brother Chuck (JoAnn), Elkton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, brother-in-law Jim Cameron, niece Carol Cameron Janssen and sister Roween Cameron.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at United Parish of Elkton with burial in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 – 7:30 pm Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton.
