Obituary

Loren J. Bendt passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Flandreau. Loren was born July 21, 1926 on a farm in Spring Creek Township, Moody County to Fritz and Esther (Smallfield) Bendt. Loren received his education at Dexter Country School and then started farming with his dad. He entered the U.S. Army for WW II on May 25, 1945 and was discharged on October 20, 1946. He returned to farming and was married on August 27, 1950 at Flandreau to Donna Story after which they farmed at White, SD. In 1957 they returned to Moody County to farm until moving on the home farm in 1973 and continued to farm until 1986. Loren drove truck for Jim Jones for several years until retiring and then worked for area farmers until 2013. Loren was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his buddy, Lonnie Thielsen.

Loren is survived by his wife Donna, two children, Patricia Blackketter, Elkton, Doug Bendt, Flandreau, granddaughter, Krystal (Barry) Wingfield, Mankato, MN, 4 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caden, Kayl and Khiley, a sister, Emadele Rupe, Flandreau and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law B.J. Bendt and son-in-law Robert Blackketter.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
