Obituary

Linda Susan Winkler, 65, of Elkton, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. Linda was born November 21, 1947, at Newark, NJ, to William and Jennie Genovese (Patruno). Linda married Lawrence Hammer in 1968 having one daughter, Jennifer. Linda re-married in 1988 to Steve Winkler gaining a new family that she also loved.
Linda worked as a secretary most of her life, most recently in the Graduate School at SDSU, where she retired on her 65th birthday in 2012. Linda most recently lived in Elkton, SD where she was very active in her church and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She was fortunate to receive a kidney from her step-daughter, Leslie, in 2003 and was just as gracious in giving her organs at death. She enjoyed needlecrafts, sewing, and cooking; she especially loved cooking food for her church family each Sunday. She took great pride in her grandchildren, her garden and her homemaking.

Linda is survived by her daughter Jennifer Kampmann (Tony); three brothers, Joseph, William and Ronnie Genovese; one sister, Bernadette Fabre; two step-daughters, Leslie Winkler and Johanna Williams; one step-son Mike Pennel; and six grandchildren, Shelby and Emma Kampmann, Makinna and Brennan Davis, Alicia Inman (Pennel) and Jessie Williams. Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father.

There will be an Open House Memorial from 3:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday July 20, 2013 at the Elkton Community Center.
