Obituary

Leo L. McMahon, 82, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Flandreau, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Apache Junction, AZ. Leo was born November 8, 1929 to Vincent and Ella (Erickson) McMahon of Flandreau, SD. Leo graduated from Flandreau High School in 1947. Leo met the love of his life, Rosemary Zimmer at a dance, and on January 3, 1952 they were united in marriage in Humboldt, SD. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 – 1954. During his military service, Leo and Rosemary lived in Ft. Riley, KS and Ft. Hood, TX. After Leo's discharge, they moved to Flandreau. He farmed for over 25 years and worked at the Flandreau Post Office for 23 years from 1966 until his retirement in 1989. Leo and Rosemary moved to Sioux Falls in January 2000. After their retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Florence, AZ. Leo was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau and currently a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sioux Falls. He was a quiet man with a kind heart and a soft soul. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, hunting, playing pool, snowmobiling and spending time with his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are his five children, David (Carol) McMahon, Elkton, Ronald (Mary) McMahon, Pierre, Patrick McMahon, Sioux Falls, Rita (Dennis) Lindgren, Mandan, ND, Lois McMahon, Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren, Peter (Shayna) McMahon, Katherine (Jason) Heinemann, Daniel (Annie) McMahon, Joan (Tom) Langum, Adam McMahon, Tracey McMahon, Jeremy McMahon, Mallory (Jerr) Berreth, Sarah (Nathan) Helbling, Mark (Kelly) Lindgren, Kris Lindgren; 11 great-grandchildren, one sister JoAnn (Joe ) Stika, Lakewood, CO; sisters-in-law, Carolyn McMahon, Flandreau, Lucille Lee, Green Valley, AZ; brothers-in-law, Steve (Donna) Zimmer, Sioux Falls, Lyle (MaryLou) Zimmer, Humboldt; sisters-in-law, Arlene Zimmer and Lois Zimmer, both of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rosemary; parents; one great-grandson, Eli; brothers and one sister, Vernon, William, Loren, Lois; one sister-in-law Lorraine McMahon; brothers-in-law, Francis, David, Gene, Pete and sisters-in-law, Nadine and Leone Zimmer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Monday, February 27, 2012 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with a 4:00 pm scripture service and rosary.
