Laurel E. Larson, 88, died Friday at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Laurel was born January 1, 1920 in Flandreau, SD to Aaron and Gertie (Nelson) Larson. He went to Chamberlin Country School and graduated from Egan High School in 1937. He farmed with his dad and then went to California and worked for Douglas Aircraft. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 serving in the European Theatre. He flew 25 missions as a turret gunner and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Laurel was married to Ruth Cypert on August 4, 1945 in Amarillo, TX. After his discharge on October 25, 1945 they farmed southwest of Egan, SD. In 1967 they moved to a farm northwest of Flandreau and continued to farm. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; twin daughters, Donna (Floyd) Forman, Manning, IA and Dianne (Roger) Headrick, Luverne, MN; four grandsons and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, a sister, Maurine Spriggs and a brother, Vernon "Todd" Larson. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial at Clare Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Sunday with a 5:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
